Discover Moissanite

What truly sets moissanite apart is its sparkle. It surpasses that of any other gemstone on the market today, including diamonds.

What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a gemstone said to be “born from the stars” due to it first being discovered in a meteorite crater. It is a naturally occurring mineral made up of silicon carbide.

However, since it is small in size and its occurrence in nature is extremely rare, lab-created moissanite is used in jewellery, meaning it is a conflict-free and more sustainable option with guaranteed origins.

Does moissanite look different from diamonds?

It has properties that are strikingly similar to diamonds and a refractive index that is higher than diamonds, leading to a superior brilliance. This makes the two stones particularly difficult to differentiate between unless by a trained eye and is why it is increasingly being recognised as the top contender amongst the other diamond alternatives. Even with all these amazing qualities, moissanite is still only roughly a 10th of the price of an equivalent sized diamond.

Is moissanite a diamond simulant?

It is important to note that Moissanite is not a diamond simulant, but simply an alternative, as it is a naturally occurring stone in its own right. Because of its durability, moissanite can be found in a variety of cuts, which gives a plethora of options for moissanite engagement ring designs and other jewellery settings.

Moissanite vs Other Gemstones

Below is a table showing a comparison of moissanite against diamonds and other stones which are commonly considered as alternatives to diamonds.

What does the toughness score and the Mohs Scale measure?

The Mohs scale score and toughness score is an indicator of the stones durability.

Are there any other differences between moissanite & diamond?

Moissanite are actually more heat resistant than even diamonds, meaning that if they were in a fire, they would still retain their sparkle and form. This makes it a great contender as a heirloom.

Moissanite is far more superior than any other diamond alternative and truly does give diamonds a run for their money. With the lower price point, it is no surprise that it is increasing in popularity.
